SUPPORTING THE SEA TURTLE HATCHERY CENTER GALLE - SRI LANKA
CEMCON AG always supported the protection and preservation of our nature and in particular of the endangered marine environment. We take this responsibility serious and hence CEMCON AG started in February 2022 to support and sponsor the sea turtle hatchery center in Galle / Sri Lanka. Managing Director of CEMCON AG Dr. Hans Wilhelm Meyer went personally to Galle to discuss and settle details of the cooperation between the Sea Turtle Hatchery Center and CEMCON AG.
The sea turtle hatchery center is located near the Jetwing Hotel in Mahamodara, Galle / Sri Lanka and is open for visitors (Email: nilangahld@gmail.com, Tel.: +94 755 402553.)
The center collects the eggs of 5 endangered sea turtle species, e.g. Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, Olive Ridley Turtle, Loggerhead Turtle and Leather Back Turtle from around neighboring beaches which would be otherwise dug out by dogs, birds and humans and hatch them in protected areas within the centers premises.
The hatchlings are safely released into the ocean after 3-5 days.
Moreover the station treats and heals animals injured by ship propellers, plastic waste, fishing nets and lines as well as shark attacks.
